All three of the state’s major research universities (Clemson University, the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) and the University of South Carolina (USC)) joined together to form the South Carolina Bioengineering Alliance to expand bioengineering research, education, and technology development. MUSC, USC and private hospitals, collaborate in Health Sciences South Carolina (HSSC), a statewide consortium to develop, test, and bring health interventions and therapies to widespread use. By involving and cooperating with researchers and medical providers throughout the state, this consortium advances the commercial possibilities of new medical technologies.

South Carolina has already assisted Israeli biomedical companies establish their North American presence. For example, earlier this year, the South Carolina-Israel Collaboration Work Group facilitated investment in Israeli’s NeuroQuest company and the establishment of its North American research center. The Roper St. Francis Medical Center has recently entered into a collaborative agreement with the Trendlines incubator in Misgav.
